Rêve d été is a coming together of 11 female painters and ceramicists in a group show at Artemis Studio.

It is a summer dream with notes of surrealism and textural abstraction. A hazy landscape, the hot earth, basking in the August sun. The show takes the viewer on a journey of shape and color. There are elements of nostalgia, memories of hikes with fingers brushing in tall grasses just as they’ve begun to yellow, perhaps the shadow of tanned bodies on a crowded beach and notes of something deeper. The summer being a time of growth and forced evolution, when the sweat rings out the old and creates space for thought and feeling. Long days, short nights; a few cracks in the surface might appear and especially for women, we find our bodies, our hearts, our minds expand and contract, expand again - on our summer quest for self. There’s space for dreaming, surreal fantasies, perhaps a summer lover, a childhood moment of bliss, a shooting star, a wish and a journey.

Artemis Studio LA is a Topanga based, art focused interior design studio, gallery and shoppe founded by Elizabeth Flynn. Whilst you can usually find a number of functional small pieces and gifts at Artemis, it will be going through a metamorphosis during Rêve d été - its own summer dream.
